Hi, Im Meghan
I guess you can say, I’ve always been of a creative mind. From dance, choir, art, creative writing, I’ve always valued expression and how it aids our growth and journey. Growing up barefoot in the woods of Northern Idaho, my soul is rooted in the wilderness. It was there that I gained and early appreciation for this beautiful planet we call home. In adulthood, I craved more than my small hometown could offer, so I beat feet to big cities around the west coast and now call Seattle and San Diego home. I’ve worn many hats in my professional life: from interior design, retail management, and e-commerce. But my right brained tendencies overtook them all, pulling me towards the editorial, use of light, and visual aspects of each role. When my creative cup just wasn’t filling up, a change was absolutely in order.
I honestly can’t remember a time that I didn’t have a camera in my hand. I had saved up months of chore money to buy my first film camera, capturing my families many camping adventures and outdoor outings. In school, I flashed my newly upgraded power-shot around campus, documenting those precious days with friends and experiencing the growing pains of young life. In 2016, I decided to get serious and tried my hand at editing- it was though this alchemy of the art form that I fell in love with photography all over again. Making the decision to take the dive into photography full time came without hesitation- leaning into a craft that sets my soul on fire, gives me chills, and literally makes me jump out of bed before the sun has been the best decision I’ve ever made for myself.
I’m in a state of awe when I take in the natural world. I’m constantly observing the life and scenes around me, trying to reflect its patterns, colors, and textures in my work. High concept and abstract editorials are a huge source of inspiration as well- combining fine art, juxtaposed lines, and the bodies natural form enhances the storytelling aspect of the work that pulls me in most. I have an unquenchable thirst to create, and unfortunately, being surrounded by a group of camera shy friends and family, I took up self portrait work to keep my creative juices flowing. The combination of both shooting and posing pushed me to find my best angles and in turn, allow that knowledge to guide me in prompting my clients during their sessions as well.
